  • projects outside of the tech community can provide opportunity to work in domains that differ greatly from the standard business project
  • take on projects that are sized appropriately
  • be aware of post implementation support
  • get multiple people in the local community involved -- i.e. User Group members
  • make sure that you tackle the project to provide value for the end users and not just as a vehicle for trying new technologies
  • in Canada there is MatchIT but it doesn't have a lot of development stuff on it.
  • Microsoft frequently gets requests for help from non profit organizations. Contact your local DPE/MS rep if you're looking to find something
  • TechSoup is available for non-profits to get cheap/free software from MS
